I love it when it snows. I love the cold, the need for cute hats and scarves, the world when everything is white. Now, I don’t mean that I like the days when it’s snowy and the sun is shining so it’s cold but also warm (not that I don’t love those days as well). But what I’m talking about are the days when it’s so cold that going outside without gloves is not an option, the sun is nowhere in sight because the sky is so heavy with snow clouds, and the entire world around me has nothing but snow on it and it’s still falling. Those… those are the days I love.
I get excited for the first snowfall. I’ll go outside, even if I’m in my pj’s and just stand with my face upwards and just watch. Now I wouldn’t go as far to say that I’m Lorelai Gilmore crazy about the snow, but I do love it. Now. It’s not the beauty that draws me in, but the silence. The cold allows me to breathe deeper, the silence allows me to hear clearer, and the cold allows me to be frozen in that moment
Many times throughout the winter I’ve taken for granted these moments when it was possible for me to just stand in awe and just be. I’m too busy, too in a hurry, too cold, too something or another. But is it really necessary for me to get to class a half an hour early? Can’t the groceries wait? Can’t dinner be put off a few more minutes? “Jesus is our supreme example. He was never in a hurry. He knew who he was and where he was going. He wasn’t held hostage to the world’s demands or even its desperate needs. “I only do what the Father tells me to do,” Jesus told his disciples.” …….But here I am, in a hurry… always in a hurry.
But this time… this time I’m going to stop. I’m going to listen. I’m going to look up and hear what He has been trying to share with me. “There is a magnetism about his words, as though they contain breath and life….” So, I will stand outside in the cold, in the snow with the ever present silence. I will listen, take a deep long breath and live.
“For it is impossible to be in the presence of Jesus and not be changed.”
Have a wonderful snowy Sunday evening…. ♥ B
